Energy Connect

Our projects

A battery at Auckland's main grid exit point, a solar pipeline to pair with it, and campuses for the loads that need firm supply.

Ōtāhuhu BESS

A 200 MW / 800 MWh battery energy storage system beside Transpower's Ōtāhuhu substation, the main grid exit point into Auckland.

The site is 250 m from the substation, with three 110 kV bays available, so the project connects without joining the generation queue. The battery stores energy when prices are low and supplies Auckland through the evening peak.

Solar pipeline

Six utility-scale solar projects across the North Island. Every 200 MW of solar is paired with a 200 MW / 800 MWh battery, so storage grows with supply.

Firmed data-centre campuses

Data centres need power every half-hour, including through New Zealand's dry winters, when wholesale prices can spike.

We are developing turnkey data-centre campuses beside our batteries. The first, at Ōtāhuhu, is planned for 60–100 MW of firm supply. Further sites, each with a co-located battery, are being consented.

Supply is firmed in layers: baseload hedges, our own solar, our own batteries on the same node, optional flexibility from standby generation, and a committed liquidity facility. The result is new generation built for the load, which is what New Zealand now expects of large data centres.
